HISTORY of Eddie’s Shake Shop 1492 Columbus discovers America 1680 Father Louis Hennepin explores the Mississippi River and discovers the future site of Apple Grove 1681 The Explorers Society of Minnesota discover Father Hennepin’s lost gold 1685 The ESM develops tunnels and caves on site, and hides Hennepin’s gold underground 1849 Apple Grove settled by Europeans 1863 A pioneer church is built on the current site of Eddie’s Shake Shop 1865 Saboteurs burn the church to the foundation. The caves are lost to history. 1920 Prohibition rum-runners fuel an increase in organized crime in Apple Grove. 1922 The Irish Mob builds the ‘Ace of Spades’ speak-easy on the remaining church foundation. 1930s Downtown Apple Grove becomes more and more run down. 1931 The Mob abandons Apple Grove for the larger cities 1956 ‘Ace of Spades’ is inspected and condemned 1977 Eddie O’Malley moves to Apple Grove to hide-out from his mobster family and dodge his bad debts 1978 Eddie opens “Eddie’s Shake Shop” and helps to rejuvenate downtown Apple Grove 1985 Eddie discovers the formula for The Perfect Milkshake and the milk-shake business booms 2007 After many years losing money, Eddie sells the shop to Jack Harris to avoid a bank foreclosure 2008 While living in the apartment above the shop, Eddie is discovered by his estranged mobster nephew Seamus O’Malley. 2009 The Story Continues… |
